This week, were upgrading our skills by attending professional events or seminars, or by signing up for an online course!
Last week for our 12 Months of Wellness, we brought our resumés and portfolios up to snuff—we got rid of old, outdated achievements, added new ones, and made sure that we had easy access to any relevant certificates or samples we wanted to showcase. But what if our resumés look a little on the bare side now?
That’s completely okay.
Try it out!
Upgrading our skills can do a lot more than make a more impressive resumé, however. They may very well improve your value as an employee to a current employer, help you to stay up-to-date on the goings-on of your industry, and even work as a great place to make new friends!
And finding opportunities couldn’t be easier; all you need is a computer and a search engine.
- Attend a meeting or seminar in your field of expertise—or a field your hope to enter into. These are often offered by professional organization, so they’re also a great way to learn about the latest industry trends.
- Check out your local college or university. Post-secondary institutions are great sources for one-time or week-long crash courses into a specific topic that may be applicable to you. They also tend to have weekend or evening continuing education options for anyone who wants to further their education without quitting their day job.
Are you attending a professional seminar or a networking event this week? Tell us about it! Let us know how it went by leaving us a comment on Facebook, by sending us a Tweet with the #2013alive hashtag, or by commenting on our blogs.
